
A Circus is for meant for entertainment, a place full of joy and new things to experience. Never would you think, lives were going to be lost at your feet. The cries and screams of young children and women, the story of how The Hartford Circus burned took the lives of many was heard around the world.
In 1944, The Hartford Circus Fire took the life of 167 people, leaving about 700 injured. The Hartford Circus Fire became one of the deadliest fires in American History, but it was also known as “The Day the Clowns Cried” Emmett Kelly, shown in the picture above, is seen holding a pail (bucket) full of water.
